Yonaha Maehama Beach

Miyako's signature beach — sometimes called Japan's most beautiful. White sand and "Miyako Blue" water give a postcard-perfect tropical-paradise vibe. Paired with Sunayama Beach and Toguchi Beach as Miyako's top three.

Higashi-Hennazaki

Sunayama Beach

The most accessible main beach from town. Climb over a sandy hill, and a hidden beach opens up — the route makes it an attraction in itself. A natural rock arch is the photogenic landmark.

Miyako Food

Miyako soba

Miyako's soul food. A clear bonito-based broth with thin curly noodles. Sliced pork belly or pork spareribs are standard. Reasonable: ~¥600–900 at diners around town.

Yukishio (snow salt)

Made from underwater seawater off Miyako, mineral-rich. Fine texture — the name comes from "snow-like salt." Buy at the factory shop or at souvenir stores.

Mango

Miyako is one of Japan's top domestic mango regions. Strong sweetness, strong aroma, melting texture. Peak season is June–August — if you cruise in that window, fresh mangoes are on the table.

Sata andagi

Traditional Okinawan fried sweet doughnuts. Crisp outside, moist inside. Sold in convenience stores and markets on Miyako.

Tips for Miyako

1. Pre-book transit

Rental car is best, but cruise days concentrate demand. Book before sailing, or grab the rental car office near the port early morning.

2. Best time for Miyako Blue

Late morning to early afternoon, with light angling down into the water, produces the strongest blue. Sunny morning at Yonaha Maehama is the ideal.

3. Sun protection seriously

Miyako UV is brutal — even on cloudy days. SPF 50+, hat, rash guard.

4. Sunayama needs proper shoes

The route over the sand hill needs sneakers, not heels or fashion sandals.

5. Aim to be back 1.5 hours before departure

Higashi-Hennazaki, Irabu Bridge — 30–40 minutes back to port. Plan with buffer.
